About the National Redress Scheme

In response to recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, the Australian Government developed a National Redress Scheme for people who were sexually abused as children in institutional settings before 1 July 2018. The Scheme commenced on 1 July 2018 and will operate for 10 years.

The Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety is coordinating the Queensland Government’s participation in the Scheme including:

  • providing access to counselling and psychological care (CPC) to people in Queensland who accept an offer of redress that includes CPC, and
  • facilitating the delivery of direct personal responses from Queensland Government institutions to people who experienced institutional child sexual abuse in a Queensland Government institution.

Detailed information about the Scheme including eligibility, application processes and supports is available at National Redress Scheme.

Free legal advice for anyone considering applying to the Scheme, or wanting to discuss all options available to them is also available by calling knowmore on 1800 605 762 or on the knowmore website.
